A Great Banquet!
I had a great time at the 2010 Spicer Appreciation Banquet on Friday, April 23rd. I hope those of you that attended did also.
Both well deserved. Thank you, Spicer appreciates you!!
Many items where donated by local individuals and businesses for the silent auction held during the banquet. A trip to Scottsdale Arizona and a Melvin's Houseboat cruise where also auctioned live. The auction was a huge success! $3,034 was raised with all the money going to the 4th of July fireworks. This will be a great help to ensure we have another fabulous fireworks display this year. Thank you to everyone that donated items and thank you to all the winning bidders.
I also want to thank Ron Nelson and the EDA for co-hosting the banquet with Commercial Club. And Chris Vraa, Connie Filley, Corey Thorson, Jerry Reierson and Lori Campbell for helping to organize the event.
The Commercial is now busy planning the 4th of July events. I will be posting events and dates here over the next few weeks.

Congratulations again to B&J Electric,
Billy & Jill Stewart
for business of the year!
And also to Jerry Reiter
for citizen of the year.

Lots to Do!
Are you coming out to enjoy the Winterfest activites this weekend? There is lots to do for all ages! The weekend kicks off with All You Can Eat Fish Fry from 4pm-8pm at Westwood Cafe on Friday and Melvin's 4th Annual Art Exhibit and Wine Tasting from 6pm-8pm also on Friday.
Will you watch the Frozen 5K Run/Walk Saturday morning? It starts at 9am at Melvin's. Brrr...they are brave and dedicated. It is not for me, but I do enjoy watching it!
Saturday is full of activities! Melvin's will have the Art Exhibit and Wine Tasting again from 10am-3pm, Glacial Ridge will be hosting a Cholocate and Wine event from 1pm-4pm. And a NEW event this year - Ice Golf Challenge starts at 1pm at Melvin's. That should be very fun to watch. There will be free Horse & Buggy rides from 3pm-6pm, the Cartoon Characters will be greeting visitors in the crowd at 6pm as you warm by the bon fire and wait for the fireworks to start at 7pm. Then stay for the live entertainment at Melvin's "Sweet Siren".
WOW! What a fun packed weekend! I hope to see you there! Tell me about your favorite event or one of things you enjoyed this weekend. I would love to hear from you!

Will there be an Ice Castle?
Hello! This is Sabrina Lere writing to you today. I am the new President for the Spicer Commercial Club and you will be seeing a few posts by me from time to time. This blog is intended to be a source of information, area happenings, and area stories. We welcome you to participate in any discussions by leaving a comment to the posts.
Many of you have been asking...Will there be an ice castle this year? Unfortunately the answer is NO. The ice is not good quality this year for harvesting. We are disappointed there will not be a castle, however we very excited to tell you that there is still A LOT of things to Do and See in Spicer during Winterfest. There are a few events starting this weekend (1/16/10). The giant snow slide will be under construction. Fun for ALL ages! Did you notice the Webcam on the spicermn.com home page? It will be fun to watch the construction of the slide and all the fun being had on the slide! Also, the Spicer American Legion is having an Omeletet Breakfast on Sunday (1/17/2010) 8am to 12:30pm. Come enjoy a custom made omelette. Adults - $7.00, Age 6 to 12 - $5.00, Under age 6 - Free.
You may have noticed that we launched our new website. We hope you find it to be very easy to use and come back to check it often.
Feel free to contact me if there is anything you would like to see on the website or posted on this blog. This is your blog - our community blog, and we look forward to keeping in touch with you through it.
